Fitness

So we found out that we are definitely not ready or fit to be parents yet. There was a loose Zanaflex (muscle relaxant) pill and Einstein ate some of it sometime early this morning. No wonder he was so quiet and sleepy. Finding the chewed pill was quite a shock and this morning we were late for work since we needed to clean up cat vomit (thank God he vomited), make sure there were no other pills around, and do some online research to try to figure out what more we could do and if he likely had a fatal amount. Thankfully, Einstein appears to be fine. We were pretty worried and it was fortunate that Karen could leave work a little earlier and make sure he was alive.

We've been feeling a lot better since Karen started working. Hooray! Karen is doing litigation now and is very thankful to have a job. The people at her office are nice, the hours regular, and soon she will have her office all furnished and computerized. Karen has been doing real lawyer things, such as drafting motions and pleadings. She's been getting motions from opposing counsel and will be conducting depositions within a month. It feels good to actually practice law. We are feeling more emotionally and financially fit now and it feels like we really are making a life here.

We've been pretty physically fit recently. Perhaps it's the ethos here? Lots of outdoorsy fit people live here, home of Nike, Columbia, lucy, and Adidas North America. Todd went on a rafting trip down the Deschutes River with friends on Saturday and bowling on Sunday. Deschutes was on the other side of Mount Hood in central Oregon and it was a pretty long drive out there. He had a lot of fun but was pretty tired after it. Karen did a 10K trail race with her friend, Carrie, who came down from Seattle for the race and stayed with us. It was a pretty challenging race. Karen discovered that you can feel rocks under your road running shoes when you do a rocky trail run and that's uncomfortable. Running through the trees was a lot of fun and it was a really nice comeback run for Karen who hasn't raced since February 2008. She's hoping to up her mileage since she volunteered to be an alternate for a Hood to Coast relay team. Hood to Coast is an annual relay race (the largest in the world, appropriate that it would be here and also sponsored by Nike) from Mt. Hood to the Oregon coast. There are 36 legs averaging about 6 miles each and each member doing about 3 legs. We'll see what happens... If Karen does it, it will definitely take the place of her planned half marathon for the year.

Todd will be getting those leg muscles all fit soon, too. We're moving by the end of the month from our current apartment in NW Portland to another one in NE Portland. We are very excited. Not just because our current management sucks but also because our new place will be almost 50% larger and we'll have a second bedroom. Karen will just have to run outside and we'll figure out what to do when the weather gets worse. Todd is going to bike for a portion of his commute and we plan on getting bikes soon. Then we'll be totally Portlandy. ^_^
