So the English major said that the last post was ok but that odes are usually pretty long. The last post's poem was more like a limerick. To satisfy the English major, I now attempt to write an ode for him (maybe he's masochistic).
Ode to Todd
Once upon a sunny morn
with hair nice and newly shorn
a man named Todd
said, "Isn't this odd?
This island paradise,
while by many standards awfully nice,
is rather mundane
and is leading to stagnation of my brain."
"What shall we do?"
Todd mused, as he had no clue.
Todd thought and thought,
and not for nought,
until upon he stumbled,
and with details bumbled,
on a grand plan,
fit for only a very brave man.
"We shall make our way east
to the land of many a feast.
To Portland we shall go
and weather the snow.
Although I've never been away
there I shall make a home and stay."
Talking it over with his wife,
who luckily was not cooking with a knife
(she tends to drop things when delighted
and with this proposal was very excited),
they decided to embark upon a new adventure
although they risked some censure
from those who might not approve
of them getting out from the island groove.
Although daunting and scary,
they proceeded to the land of the marionberry
and where not everyone's hair is API black
and of warm sunny days there is quite a lack.
Out of Todd's comfort zone,
he was glad he was not alone.
With the help of his wife and friends,
he is cheery at each day's end.
Todd has learned to layer his clothes,
and dress warmly wherever his goes.
He has driven in snow,
where once he only drove where coconut trees grow.
Despite the snow and cold,
Todd continues to be bold.
He searches for a new job,
hopefully not one taming a mob,
and looks for a new place
where he won't need to use mace.
He has grown in our short time here,
this much is abundantly clear.
So our adventures go on
and from Hawaii we are gone.
All this his wife has to say
(and hopefully this makes his day):
"Todd's a great find
as well as a deep and serious mind.
He may not be bubbly
or especially cuddly,
but there's no one I'd rather spend my life with.
In front of a cozy fireplace sit,
being able exchange looks
as we read our books,
drinking coffee and tea --
that's the most content place to be.
Todd is great,
Todd is grand,
I'm a fan
of Todd, my man."
